cross-disciplinary matters of creation

Although Peter Turchi’s keynote, Once Upon a Time, Like Never Before, wasn’t directly related to developing software, it was a reminder that creation shares many commonalities across disciplines. He has a lovely looking book, Maps of the Imagination, that offers a geographical metaphor to explain the creative process. He explained how seeking out terra incognito is an essential part of the process: getting lost and even leaving part of one’s exploration to the unconscious can yield one’s most brilliant discoveries. Exploration, in all disciplines, is about “assertive action in the face of uncertain assumptions.”
