ipod doctor

I dropped my iPod a few weeks ago :-( It's not the first time, but sadly, this time I broke it a little bit. The poor thing had a good, long 2.5 years and it has served me well on many travels across the globe. The display would light up when I turned the click wheel and it would still click and select things, but there was no visible text on the display. I knew the hard drive was probably still good though because it would sync properly with iTunes when I plugged it in.

At this point I was ready to drop $300 on a new iPod classic, so I really had nothing to lose by popping off the cover and having a look. I was thinking of maybe trying to swap out the working display from Nicholas' old iPod. I had to struggle a little to get the cover off but the effort was all worth it: somehow the impact had knocked the display connector loose from the main board and all I had to do was put it back in! I put it all back together and now I have a perfectly functioning iPod again. I just have a few scratches on the casing where I pried it open with a screwdriver.

After a little wifi trickery and successfully dissecting my iPod, I'm feeling pretty good about my household geek skills. And yes, I even had the necessary torx screwdrivers in my toolbox. How dorky is that?

You do look a bit nerdy in that pic, babe. Moreso than normal...I'm imagining you laughing with a nasally 'snort'!

Wait, isn't that how I always laugh? :-) Yeah, I'm totally dorking out in this pic. Plus, I really need a haircut, a shave, and an eyebrow plucking. I seem to have lost my tweezers in the move though... maybe I'll just grow one big, loooooong eyebrow.
