jeremy speed racer!

It’s me!

Actually, it’s not. It’s Érik Guay, the first Canadian to win a downhill on the World Cup circuit since Cary Mullen in 1994. But I was a ski racer too this season! My buddy Mark convinced me to join a league out at Alpental this year. I hadn’t raced in like 7 years, but apparently it’s kind of like riding a bike because I was super fast! The season started off a bit rough after I did a superman and a nose-dive on qualifying night (I left a patch of blood on the snow that looked like a small animal had been wounded). My heroic display was off the course and there were no lasting scars, but it was still a bit disheartening. Anyway, I placed 6th, 7th, and 10th. Yay me! It felt just like old times. Only this time I got to drink beer after my races and I didn’t have to wear a spandex suit.

It’s kind of difficult for me to imagine living far from mountains after such a great season. Do I really have to go? Because sometimes I think that I don’t want to. What I *really* want is to ski slalom again. GS is fun, but slalom is my favorite event by far. Maybe I’ll start my own slalom racing league some day. That would be pretty sweet. For now I’ll have to stick with software.
