Extreme Makeover: Geek Edition
Tonight I stumbled across what is probably the dorkiest thing I’ve ever seen: IT Makeover. It declares itself to be spin-off of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” only this time it’s an extreme makeover of a software project.
Don’t worry, it’s not actually going on prime time. As far as I can tell, it’s a Microsoft sponsored project to show off just how Microsoft technologies are. The site says that Microsoft plans to use the films as marketing material.
The thing I wonder about most: are they going to have wardrobe advisors? Damn, no one is going to want to buy Microsoft software if all they see is a bunch of smelly software developers in plaid shirts.
The web site says the first cast will be developers using Microsoft products, but they’re going to have a second cast using Java and open source software. Maybe I should apply? I’d be famous. The only thing I don’t get is who sponsors the second cast. Surely it won’t be Microsoft.
