Update?
Salut mes amis. I am sorry I have not been writing to you.
This evening I ventured to the Seattle University district to watch Garcon Stupide, a lovely little French-innocent-gay-boy coming of age film. There were a few scenes that were typical and quite trite, like the picnic in the sun-blinding snow scene, but I kinda liked it. The main character, Loic, has this ‘mentor’ guy (Lionel) who he meets with regularly, but you never see his face. Whenever Loic is with Lionel, the camera is close-up in on Loic like you’re talking directly to him and flirting with him. You can see all the nuances of his facial expressions too. It was bizarre; I actually left the movie feeling like I had just spent two hours having a flirty little conversation.
Usually whenever I go to a French movie or see a really good band I come away saying “I really should keep my French up”, or “I really should get back to playing music”. I’ve always thought that if I didn’t have to worry about a career, money, and all those responsibilities, I would just settle down in Montréal, write free software, start playing classical saxophone again, learn to play the guitar better, and shape myself into an anglophile Québecois with prairie roots. To me, that would be an ideal existance.
