Retail Therapy

I’m buying quite a number of things these days that make me feel good. For example, my new mobile phone arrived this week from Amazon. It’s one of those Motorola RAZR phones. I wish it were a Nokia, but I wanted a quad band and I’m still quite fond of my fancy new mobile.

I’ve also started to actually use some of the features on Amazon now. I now have an Amazon wish list. Some of the items on there: an iSight camera, a DVD burner, and a reference book on Vi IMproved. I’m a decent VIM user, but I must become one of those insanely competent VIM hackers that everyone looks up to. Anyway, my next task is to enter in a sampling of (or all?) the music I have in my collection and let Amazon recommend some great new albums for me. Nicholas told me he found The Fiery Furnaces that way. It can’t be too bad.

I *really* want to install Linux on my work laptop. I absolutely hate running Windows and I know nothing about it, but everyone is so Exchange-happy over there that I would have a hard time getting by on Mutt for my mail. The Exchange connector for Evolution is too buggy for everyday use, so I would be stuck using rdesktop with a terminal server farm. I suppose there are worse things. Some day I will be brave enough. On the brighter side, I’m getting a second LCD for my desktop box at work, so that will be sweet. I’m sure I’ll spend a whole day getting my dual-head configuration working in RHEL3, but it will be worth it.
