Veggie?

I was chatting with my Mom tonight and we agreed that there are many incentives to become a vegetarian. Last night on CBC, there was a feature on Mad Cow Disease and the allegedly related Creutzfeldt-Jacob Disease in humans. They talked about other brain wasting prion diseases, specifically about a disease in an African cannibalistic tribe. It kind of made me realize how disgusting eating meat really is. Admittedly, a very small percentage of the beef I eat may be contaminated with those little prions, but I’m still ingesting a cow. Gross. If it weren’t for the social implications of eating a human, eating a cow would be pretty much the same.

In addition, I have a friend who works at a large Canadian company that produces deli meats, hot dogs, and other goodies. She has been in the plants where this stuff is made and she gave me a run-down of all the great ingredients. I won’t provide the details here in case you do actually enjoy these goodies. The description alone tempted me; I’m pretty sure I would convert immediately to a veggie if I were to go on a tour of those plants. I always bug Ryan about how he doesn’t eat hot dogs, but I’m not so sure now that I’ll ever be eating another one.
